Why did you found your startup, which problem do you address and how do you solve it? 

We founded movaco in order to give employers and employees the possibility to do what they do best and simultaneously become more sustainable, more economic and more successful without reinventing themselves. 

Many companies have their headquarters in rural areas. Areas where no trains and no buses are available. Cars and everything in context cost a lot of money for employers and employees and that won’t change. Therefore, we provide a B2B2C mobility platform for daily commuting via carpools and simplified mobility management.

What gave you the idea to found?

The movaco headquarter is based in Coburg which is a small town in North Bavaria. We all got to know the problems we are currently solving with our product during the time of our studies and while working for companies in that area. Nevertheless, protecting the climate is still one of our main goals and was amongst other things a reason to found our startup.

What is special about your business-model, what are you doing differently?

If you have a B2B2C business-model, your product will always have to fit two types of customer requirements. Therefore, we don’t provide just a carpooling platform for commuters, we provide a mobility management platform for companies – offering added value for both of them. The understanding and implementation of multimodal mobility in general and what is important for employers and employees in this context is what makes us different. 

Which were the biggest challenges you needed to overcome in the beginning?

The biggest challenge for us was to build up and grow together as a team. Especially in the very beginning it’s important that you know each other, trust each other and work together like a Swiss clockwork. We had to overcome some changes in the team that threw us back a couple of times but we made our learnings. It’s not about the idea, it’s about the team spirit and about the right co-founders. 

What was your greatest success so far?

Growing together as an interdisciplinary team and at the same time building our first working prototype (MVP) in less than three months. This showed us that we are able to build up something significant in short time. 

What is your biggest need/your next challenge?

The biggest challenge for us is to prove that we as a team are able to reach our goals, especially launch the product, make sales and get our first external funding.

What are your milestones?

In 2020 we are going to make our MVP ready for the final launch by gathering and implementing as much feedback as possible from our paying pilot customers and our users. Meanwhile we want to grow as a company and successfully transact a first funding round. 

If an investor gave you 500.000 Euro, what would you do with the money?

We would use the investment according to our financial planning to grow our business and in order to build the foundation to make it 10X. This of course includes the extension of our team and the further development of our product.

Where do you see your startup in three years?

We will be trendsetting in digital mobility management solutions for companies and furthermore we will still be growing and learning, as individuals and as a company.

Why are you on Starbase/VZ?

We see ourselves as a part of an ecosystem where many different actors come together to build up something big. Startbase is the perfect meeting point for all actors in the startup ecosystem and a place for us were we want to learn and grow and also meet competitors, partners and investors.
